Occupational First Aid Course (OFAC)

Course Overview

By the end of the course, the participants will have the relevant knowledge and application skills in demonstrating first aid/CPR skills to apply them in their workplace.

Course Content

  • Explain the duties and responsibilities of First Aider.
  • List the legal requirements under Workplace Safety and Health (First Aid) Regulations 2006 Reg. 5 (2) for the workplace.
  • Check and pack contents of First Aid Box.
  • Apply first aid to accident victims in the workplace.
  • Manage a medical emergency at the workplace.
  • Manage victims of hazardous chemicals exposure.
  • Identify common workplace accidents requiring first aid treatment.

Assumed Skills and Knowledge

    Any individuals with interest in first aid or has been assigned a WSH-related role in the company. Must be physically fit and able to render help to another individual during an emergency.

Legal Requirement

Workplace Safety and Health (First Aid) Regulations (Cap. 354A, Rg 4) Reg. 5 stipulates that “every person appointed as a first-aider shall (a) have successfully completed a training course acceptable to the Commissioner and (b) undergo such subsequent re-training in first-aid treatment as the Commissioner may require”.

Written exam: 40 mins (MCQs - 20 : OFA , 10 : CPR , 10 : AED)

Requirements to be a trainer and assessor for this course

  • Domain qualification: The trainer/assessor must be a domain subject matter expert, possess a WSQ-Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety & Health (WSH Professional Level B)
  • Domain work experience: The trainer/assessor must possess a minimum of five years’ relevant experience in subject matter.
  • WSQ trainer/assessor pedagogic requirement: The trainer/assessor must have attained a WSQ Advanced Certificate in Training & Assessment (ACTA) or Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP) or Diploma in Adult Continuing Education (DACE) or Diploma in Design and Development of Learning for Performance (DDDLP).
  • WSQ trainer/assessor experience: The trainer/assessor should preferably possess a minimum of one year of training experience.
  • All adult educators are required to attain 10 hours (minimum) annually by attending Continuing Professional and Development (CPD) courses conducted by appointed training providers.
  • The trainer for the course is not permitted to be the assessor for the same course learners during the assessment.
