APPLY WORKPLACE SAFETY AND HEALTH IN SHIPYARD (GENERAL TRADE) (AWSHS-GT)

Legal Requirement

The Workplace Safety and Health (Shipbuilding and Ship-repairing) Regulations 2008 Reg. 6 (2) stipulates that “It shall be the duty of every person not to carry out any hazardous work in a shipyard or on board a ship in a harbour unless he has undergone a safety and health training course approved by the Commissioner for Workplace Safety and Health.”

  • Understand application process for safety permit prior to hot work.
  • Competent in wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Target Audience

The AWSHS is a mandatory WSH training course for all workers working in the shipbuilding and ship repairing industry.

  • Minimum WPLN Level 2

Requirements to be a trainer and assessor for this course

  • Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health.
  • Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP) or Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) or Diploma in Adult Continuing Education (DACE) or Diploma in Design and Development of Learning for Performance (DDDLP).
  • 5 years of relevant industry experience as supervisor/foreman/safety personnel in the marine industry.
  • Have completed Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health or its equivalent or higher.
  • All adult educators are required to attain 10 hours (minimum) annually by attending Continuing Professional and Development (CPD) courses conducted by appointed training providers.

The trainer for the course is not permitted to be the assessor for the same course learners during the assessment.
