Legal Requirement

Apply Workplace Safety Under the Factories (Safety Training Courses) Order 2001 which came into effect in June 2001, all workers, including Singaporeans, must undergo particular-related mandatory courses before they work on field.

Course Overview

To induct employees on the safety regulations, hazards and responsibilities within the Oil and Petrochemical Industry and highlight the precautions that must be adhered to maintain a safe work environment.

Course Content

  • Understand legal obligations to Apply Workplace Safety and Health.
  • Identify hazards in oil and petrol chemical plant and other sites within the premises.
  • Recognize all types of industrial safety signs.
  • Apply for safety permit prior to hot work.
  • Put on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Take safety precautions when working with different hazards.
  • Respond in case of fire or emergency.

Target Audience

    Previously known as Oil and Petrochemical Safety Orientation Course (OPSOC). This course is mandatory to all personnel who are working in the Oil and Petrochemical plants (in particular, Jurong Island) in Singapore.

Assumed Skills and Knowledge

Learners are assumed to possess the following set of attitudes, skills and knowledge

  • Learners must be above 18 years of age
  • Minimum WPLN Level 2
  • Be able to follow written and oral work instructions

Requirements to be a trainer and assessor for this course

  • Have demonstrated competency for the Competency Unit to be delivered.
  • Have at least three (3) years of relevant industry experience at supervisory or managerial level, including evidence of maintaining currency, for example, through recent work in the industry as supervisor, consultant or trainer, or professional development or active membership of a professional association.
  • Be certified competent in preparation, delivery and evaluation of training sessions or relevant National Trainer Competency Standards certification (Full Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment) or Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP) or Diploma in Adult Continuing Education (DACE) or Diploma in Design and Development of Learning for Performance (DDDLP).
  • Have completed Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health or its equivalent or higher.
  • Have completed Oil/Petrochemical Industry Safety Course for Supervisors or its equivalent; or an established track record in the delivery of the Oil/Petrochemical Safety Orientation Course for Workers or its equivalent.
  • All adult educators are required to attain 10 hours (minimum) annually by attending Continuing Professional and Development (CPD) courses conducted by appointed training providers.
  • The trainer for the course is not permitted to be the assessor for the same course learners during the assessment.

  • The results are usually updated and released by the relevant department within 1 hour after the assessment.

1. Self-Sponsored Individual

For individuals who register and pay for the course on their own

  • Singapore Citizens aged 21 and above and Permanent Residents are eligible for up to 50% course fee funding from SSG for Certifiable courses.
  • The remaining balance (after funding) can be paid using:
